Build Community as You Would Host a House Party

I can’t seem to get off A List Apart this morning.  I found another article worth posting on social networking.  After listing several best practices gained from developing the Flickr community, author George Oates states simply, “treat your place like your home: welcome people, fix them a drink and make them feel comfortable. Before you know it, your guests will be chatting amongst themselves, the party will be pumping, and people will be making plans together.

As a former bartender and one who enjoys serving others I can definitely relate to treating others as if they were guests in my home.  I like that personal touch concept for managing an online community and will keep that in mind the next time I’m promoting online communities for creative industries.
