The end of the age of free | Media | The Observer

As a big promoter of the creative economy I think it is important to understand the full gamut of implications that shifting to a creative industry based economy would imply.  In this Guardian article which discusses the potential end of the free internet there is a nugget on how the internet, and the creative economy, is redefining value.

We are quickly approaching an era where value will be measured in more than monetary terms.  We’ve seen the publication of a happiness index.  We have sustainability value indicators and now it looks like the creative economy will be based not just on money but also time and reputation.

Are we witnessing, “the twin birth of a “reputation economy” and a “time economy”, to exist alongside the battered old “money economy“?” Will the outcome be that “value will be assessed differently by both providers and consumers?
