Thinking Beyond the Possible

On Monday 15th September, John Wood, Goldsmiths University and founder of Attainable Utopias and Malcolm Smith, Design Director for Arup Urban Design held an insightful discussion here at Greengaged. The Joined-up Living seminar explored integrated urbanism and cross disciplinary thinking for the future.
John took to the stand first and introduced his work at Goldsmiths University and the concept of MetaDesign, practiced through his Attainable Utopias thinktank. “Everything is co-designed…” John explained, “…and everyone is co-creative. We need a paradigm shift.”
Malcolm gave the second talk and discussed the currency of the future (carbon and water resources), the notion of the spectacle, accountability, design as a process of risk mitigation, and the importance of knowledge sharing. “If you know what is happening, you can make a choice” Malcolm Smith explained.
