15th September: Big Problems, Big Ideas
The opening day of greengaged will set the scene and kick off the debate. The challenge of climate change calls for bold new approaches to find solutions, and we’ll be exploring what this means for design as we look to the future.
8am-10am Big Bang Breakfast
Debate: “This house believes that the primary responsibility for tackling global climate change lies with the design industry”
Design Council Chair Sir Michael Bichard, with Julias Hailes MBE, Clive Grinyer of Cisco, Ed McCann of Expedition Engineering and Dorothy MacKenzie of Dragon will launch greengaged. These influential speakers will each bring their own insights, opinions and expertise on the importance of sustainability, the imperatives for creating more environmentally responsible goods and services, and challenges for manufacturers, service providers and designers in delivering them.
We will also be launching the call to help create a new manifesto for sustainable design. All visitors and participants of greengaged can become part of a collective creation - come and contribute your own ideas, pledges and challenges for the design industry. The exhibition will evolve during the seven days of greengaged, and the final manifesto will be collated and published at the conclusion of the event.
